SUMMARY:AbandonmenTissues Exhibition Gallery 1
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition Reception – July 10 from 5 to 8PM.AbandonmenTissues by Alvaro Alvarez \nThe East County Art Association is proud to present the Opening Reception of AbandonmenTissues on July 10\, a powerful exhibition by artist and architectural designer Alvaro Alvarez in ECAA  Gallery 1. \nAt the heart of this exhibition is Alvarez’s creative process of recycling and transformation. Through his work\, objects often perceived as discarded or worthless are reimagined into compelling works of art. Materials once considered trash are carefully reassembled and transformed\, revealing unexpected beauty and meaning. \nFor Alvarez\, this process carries a powerful message: problems are also opportunities. By reclaiming abandoned materials\, the artist demonstrates how challenges whether environmental or personal can become the foundation for creativity\, reflection\, and renewal. \nRather than passing judgment or pointing fingers\, AbandonmenTissues seeks to inspire action through creativity. Just as Alvarez discovered in recycling a personal way to respond to environmental concerns\, each visitor is invited to reflect on their own worries and challenges\, and imagine how they too might transform them into something meaningful. \nAlvarez’s practice is also deeply connected to ocean and environmental conservation\, using recycled materials as a way to highlight the importance of reducing waste and protecting our natural ecosystems. Through this artistic approach\, the exhibition connects creative expression with environmental awareness\, encouraging viewers to rethink the relationship between consumption\, waste\, and the health of our planet. \nThe Grand Opening Reception on July 10 launches a months-long exhibition and will feature special activations designed to reinforce the artist’s central thesis: difficulties hold unlimited potential. Through art\, dialogue\, and immersive experiences\, visitors will witness how creativity can flourish even in adversity\, motivating us to imagine new possibilities for ourselves\, our communities\, and the environment. \nAbandonmenTissues ultimately reclaims creativity as a tool for action\, addressing the challenges of our time from environmental concerns to the most intimate inner battles and inviting audiences to see transformation not only in art\, but in life itself. \nAbout  Alvaro Alvarez- Alvaro  holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University (Ithaca\, New York) and a Certification in World Art History from the Smithsonian Institution in Washington\, D.C. His interdisciplinary practice blends art\, architecture\, and social reflection\, creating immersive works that encourage dialogue and new perspectives. \nIs a Free event ! for more information Contact  Linda Baltodano President ECAA  (619)499-7758

SUMMARY:Gallery 1 Shelby Marzoni - Solo Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:I Know I Am But What Are You?\nMarch 4–28th\, 2026Reception: March 13th\, 5–7 PM\n  \nTHE EAST COUNTY ART ASSOCIATION IS PROUD TO PRESENT\nSHELBY MARZONI’S SOLO EXHIBITION\n\nExhibition Statement\nThis exhibition is a survey of my emotional and philosophical reactions\nto world events and my surroundings during the pandemic years 2019-2022.\nSome pieces which belong to these series are more recent. \nThe first series\, From Angst to Relief\, was born of my own frustration\nwith the total shutdown of public life and the strife this engendered in our\nnation and around the world. I felt powerless\, as an older woman\, to say\nanything impactful about these things. Watching stand up has always provided\na cathartic outlet for such feelings. Since stand-up comics seem to get away\nwith saying most anything they want\, I began to find my voice in their faces as\nthey expressed rage\, disgust\, defiance and alternatively\, relief and joy. I\ncarefully chose for my inspiration the expressions I most wanted to capture\nwhile photographing Netflix specials. \nCat Apocalypse is a narrative series that employs the device of heroic\ncats to tell a fable of a world at ease disturbed by visions of impending doom.\nDisaster happens\, and the cats run for their lives. After searching for higher\nwisdom\, the heroes find hope in the end\, finally stepping up to rewire the\nworld’s collective mourning into joy. \nThe hero of Xhaaad’s Terrestrial Adventure is a young extraterrestrial\nnamed Xhaaad who chooses Earth as their destination for their coming-of-age\nchallenges. Xhaaad assumes a body that would enable them to thrive on this\nplanet\, but at the same time to differ sufficiently from humans as to elicit some\nkind of reaction. Xhaaad’s challenge is to assimilate and befriend members of\ntheir host race with acceptance and empathy. From their first aerial approach\nto collect data to their gradual engagement with humans and other living\nbeings\, Xhaaad demonstrates tolerance\, curiosity\, and openness. \nFinally\, I am showing some pieces which do not fit into any of these\nthree series. I painted several of them as an homage to late California artist\nWayne Thiebaud\, who passed in 2021. A sampling of my tiny landscapes and\nbeach scenes are also on view. \nJoin us for Shelby’s Reception for an opportunity to meet the artist and a discussion about her masterfully painted and curated work. \n  \n\nLocation: East County Art Association\n124 East Main Street\, El Cajon 92020 \nSHOW TIMES:\nWednesdays; 3:00pm-7:00pm\nThursday-Saturday: 10:00am-3:00pm
