SUMMARY:Canvas and Thread Exhibition- Gallery 1
DESCRIPTION:CANVAS & THREAD EXHIBITION\nExhibition dates: May 6- May 30th \nRECEPTION: May 8\, 5-7PM \n\nA Joint Exhibition by Darryl and Shiloh Swanson  \nExperience the harmonious blend of sea and stitch in Canvas and Thread\, a captivating joint exhibition celebrating the artistry of a husband-and-wife creative duo. \nDarryl is one of San Diego County’s premier artists that specialize in ocean waves and coastlines. He has spent his career dedicated to capturing the powerful beauty and ever-changing moods of California’s southern coastline. His luminous wave paintings bring the Pacific shores to life\, from the crashing surfs at La Jolla and Sunset Cliffs to the serene tides along our local beaches\, with masterful light\, motion\, and an unmistakable sense of place that only a true coastal observer can convey. \nAlongside his work\, his wife\, Shiloh presents her exquisite textile art and quilts\, created to continue the long legacy of women for generations. Her pieces range from striking art quilts designed to hang as wall statements to luxurious\, large-scale bed quilts and one-of-a-kind quilt coats. Each quilt is a heirloom in the making\, rich in color\, texture\, and meaning; carefully crafted to become historically precious family treasures passed down through generations\, carrying stories of love\, tradition\, and craftsmanship. \nTogether\, Canvas and Thread invites viewers to explore the elegant interplay between fluid paint on canvas and the intricate dance of needle and fabric. It is a celebration of complementary mediums\, shared passion\, and the enduring legacy of art in the home and heart. \nWhether you’re drawn to the rhythmic energy of the ocean or the comforting warmth of handmade textiles\, this exhibition offers something deeply personal and visually stunning for every art lover. \nLocation:\nEast County Art Association Gallery 1\n124 East Main Street\, El Cajon

SUMMARY:Stories Worth Telling- Kim Hannan Solo Exhibition - GALLERY 2
DESCRIPTION:“Stories Worth Telling” — Solo Exhibition by Kim Hannan \nThe East County Art Association is proud to present Stories Worth Telling\, a solo exhibition by fine art photographer and painter Kim Hannan\, running July 1–31 at the Main ECAA Gallery 2. \nThis exhibition brings together two bodies of work united by a single conviction: that the most meaningful art begins with a story worth preserving. Hannan’s Natura Collection\, conservation-inspired works drawn from wildlife\, botanicals\, and travel\, opens with photography captured in nature’s most protected places and is transformed through her signature mixed-media process of oils\, chalks\, pastels\, photographic elements and watercolor into pieces that are at once luminous and enduring. Alongside these works\, landscapes from across America and travels abroad expand the collection’s sense of place — from sweeping domestic vistas to the textures and light of international destinations\, each rendered with the same painterly depth that defines her practice. A curated grouping of portrait paintings from her Masterpiece Collection rounds out the exhibition\, inviting viewers into deeply personal narratives built around meaningful objects and the quiet dignity of a life well lived. \nTogether\, these collections reflect the thread that runs through all of Hannan’s work: the belief that whether the subject is a crane in a wetland\, a sun-drenched hillside in Tuscany\, or a beloved face\, art exists to honor what matters most and pass it forward. \nThe exhibition will feature two special events: \n\nOpening Reception: July 3\, 5-7pm at the Main ECAA Gallery 2\, East County Art Association (ECAA)\, 124 E Main St\, El Cajon\n\n\nAbout the Artist:  Kim Hannan holds a Bachelor of Social Science from Troy University\, grounded by four formative years of study at the University of Kentucky School of Fine Arts\, where she trained in piano\, voice\, and theatrical design. In her mid-forties\, she apprenticed alongside fine art portraitists\, developing a signature mixed-media process that layers oils\, chalks\, pastels\, and watercolor to create works that blend hyperrealism with impressionistic depth. Her perspective was shaped by years of travel as a Navy wife\, a life of movement that deepened her eye for place\, presence\, and the stories that endure. Her Natura Collection follows conservation photography from the field to the canvas; her Masterpiece Collection transforms meaningful objects and personal legacy into heirloom portraiture. In all her work\, Hannan creates for the spaces\, and the lives\, where stories continue to unfold.

SUMMARY:La Vida Azul- Bem’s Solo Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:La Vida Azul  Bem’s Solo Exhibition Reception July 10 from 5-8 PM \nOne year ago\, I received the greatest gift of my life a second chance through a kidney transplant. This exhibition is deeply personal to me because it reflects not only my healing journey\, but also the connection I have always felt with the ocean and its living ecosystems. \nAs an artist\, and lover of marine life\, I began seeing coral reefs in a completely different way during my recovery. Reefs are the life source of the ocean. They protect\, nurture\, restore\, and sustain thousands of marine species\, much like our organs sustain us from within. That connection inspired this new body of work. \nThrough vibrant underwater imagery\, flowing seaweed\, reef formations\, and symbolic compositions\, I explore themes of endurance\, healing\, gratitude\, and renewal. Many of these paintings carry subtle references to the human body and to the strength it takes to survive difficult moments while still finding beauty in life. \nCreating this collection became part of my healing process. After years of illness\, dialysis\, uncertainty\, and waiting\, I found myself returning to what has always brought me peace\, the ocean. The movement\, colors\, light\, and life beneath the surface reminded me to keep enduring. \n“La Vida Azul” is more than an art exhibition. It is a celebration of life\, resilience\, second chances\, and the people who helped me stay afloat during some of my darkest moments. It is also a reminder of how deeply connected we are to nature and how much healing can be found through art\, community\, and the ocean itself. \nI invite you to join me this July 10 from 5-8 PM as we celebrate one year of life\, healing\, and the beauty that exists both within ourselves and beneath the surface. \nMake sure to RSVP
