DESCRIPTION:Still Life Painting with Pastels – Carol Perrington\nSaturday\, August 29\, 2026\n10:00 AM – 12:30 PM\nGallery 1- East County Art Association \nDiscover the beauty and versatility of soft pastels in this fun\, hands-on workshop with artist Carol Perrington. Whether you’re picking up pastels for the first time or looking to build your confidence\, you’ll learn the essential techniques needed to create a vibrant still life painting from start to finish. \n \nThroughout the class\, Carol will guide you step by step through color selection\, blending techniques\, layering\, and finishing touches while demonstrating how to simplify shapes and bring your subject to life. By the end of the workshop\, you’ll leave with a completed colorful painting and a stronger understanding of how to continue exploring this expressive medium on your own. \nThis workshop is open to teens and adults of all experience levels. Participants are welcome to bring their own pastel supplies if they have them\, although materials will be available. Because soft pastels create dust during use\, this workshop is not suitable for young children. \nJoin us for a relaxed and encouraging morning of creativity\, and leave with both a finished artwork and the confidence to continue painting with pastels. \n  \nA Little About the Instructor Carol Perrington:  \nFrom the east coast\, born a Pennsylvania girl who loved to draw\, I then spent 32 years living in\nDelaware\, teaching children with special needs and raising a family. I started drawing as a child\,\nthen learned to draw\, paint\, and use clay in school\, college\, and community classes. The last 15\nyears I began using pastels to paint especially after learning in a class given by a pastel artist at\nthe Rehoboth Art League. After receiving encouragement and several awards for my paintings I\nagreed to provide a few workshops at the East County Art Association in El Cajon. Enjoying the\ninteractions with artists who are new or returning to the medium of dry pastels I am offering\nanother workshop in August!

We only have 7 more booth availble. \nThe East County Art Association (ECAA) is not involved in the planning or organization of the Alley Cat Art Fest this year. \nECAA will be participating in the festival as an arts organization by providing booth opportunities for our members\, promoting the event in support of our local artists\, and offering special activities inside the East County Art Association Gallery. \nMEMBER BOOTH FEE: $150\nBooth spaces are available on a first-come\, first-served basis and are limited to 19 ECAA member artists.  \nYour $150 booth fee reserves one 10′ x 10′ space within the ECAA artist area. The Gallery invites artists to explore the world of inking and traditional and contemporary tattoo art with bold designs\, quality line work\, exploring the variety of ink pen tip widths\, textures\, depths and designs that can be achieved with ink as the highlighted media! \nRECEPTION DATE: October 17th 2026\nTIME: 5-8PM \nThe Inked reception will feature several invited local tattoo artists who will have their work on display in the exhibition. Some tattoo artists will offer paid on-the-spot small tattoos for the night. There will be live activations of inking stations\, where you can create your own inked piece of art with the possibility of being featured in the Inktober Show in Gallery 2 in November. DESCRIPTION:  \nEarthly Garden: Artist Talk with Dr. Marie Ramos\nCelebrating 50 Years of the California Arts Council\nNovember 20 | 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.\nEast County Art Association Gallery\n124 East Main Street\, El Cajon \nThe East County Art Association proudly presents a special artist talk by accomplished fine artist and respected arts educator Dr. Marie Ramos. \nA longtime pillar of the local arts community\, Dr. Ramos served as Chair of the Art Department at Cuyamaca College and taught watercolor and numerous other studio-art courses. Throughout her distinguished career\, she inspired generations of students\, encouraging them to develop their creative voices and pursue their artistic passions. \nPresented in conjunction with her solo exhibition\, Earthly Garden\, this intimate conversation will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the inspiration and creative process behind Dr. Ramos’s expressive paintings. She will discuss several of the techniques she uses to create luminous watercolor washes\, intricate details\, and richly imagined compositions inspired by flora and fauna.
