Still Life Painting with Pastels – Carol Perrington

Discover the beauty and versatility of soft pastels in this fun, hands-on workshop with artist Carol Perrington. Whether you’re picking up pastels for the first time or looking to build your confidence, you’ll learn the essential techniques needed to create a vibrant still life painting from start to finish.

Throughout the class, Carol will guide you step by step through color selection, blending techniques, layering, and finishing touches while demonstrating how to simplify shapes and bring your subject to life. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a completed colorful painting and a stronger understanding of how to continue exploring this expressive medium on your own.

This workshop is open to teens and adults of all experience levels. Participants are welcome to bring their own pastel supplies if they have them, although materials will be available. Because soft pastels create dust during use, this workshop is not suitable for young children.

Join us for a relaxed and encouraging morning of creativity, and leave with both a finished artwork and the confidence to continue painting with pastels.

A Little About the Instructor Carol Perrington: 

From the east coast, born a Pennsylvania girl who loved to draw, I then spent 32 years living in
Delaware, teaching children with special needs and raising a family. I started drawing as a child,
then learned to draw, paint, and use clay in school, college, and community classes. The last 15
years I began using pastels to paint especially after learning in a class given by a pastel artist at
the Rehoboth Art League. After receiving encouragement and several awards for my paintings I
agreed to provide a few workshops at the East County Art Association in El Cajon. Enjoying the
interactions with artists who are new or returning to the medium of dry pastels I am offering
another workshop in August!
